Assignment-Photo Montage - Social Commentary

Social commentary is the act of rebelling against an individual, or a group of people by rhetorical means. This is most often done with the idea of implementing or promoting change by informing the general populace about a given problem and appealing to people's sense of justice.

Photomontage is the process (and result) of making a composite photograph by cutting and joining a number of other photographs. The composite picture was sometimes photographed so that the final image is converted back into a seamless photographic print. A similar method, although one that does not use film, is realized today through image-editing software. This latter technique is referred to by professionals as "compositing", and in casual usage is often called "photoshopping"

Create a photo montage using social commentary.

Brainstorm an idea or issue.

Think of something you are passionate about or something that has really affected you in the past year with in society. News papers are a great source of ideas.

It doesn’t have to be political or world changing it could be something very personal.

Brainstorm ideas on how to depict or communicate your issue, is it negative or positive.

After deciding on an issue tell a story through photomontage.

I want you to use your own images taken, created or drawn.

The final work needs to be A3 42cm x 29.7cm at resolution 300dpi and saved as TIFFs in your student folders.
